Children or Pets in Today’s Social Contract
Many adults with more than enough resources and decent mental health choose pets over children nowadays. As human birthrate shrinks worldwide, especially in developed nations, economists and various pundits worry about society’s sustainability and wellbeing.
Although there are many benefits, rewards, and a great deal of satisfaction in raising and caring for other species, there is no comparison in the amount of benefits, rewards, and satisfaction when raising little humans to adulthood. The technology, science, medicine, music, art, infrastructure, all that we know, have, and benefit from today, it is because thus far, some of the past humans have always made the sacrifice to bring forth little humans and care for them properly. I say some humans because as we all know it, not all humans take care of their young as well as many other species do. The worldwide news has at least one horror story about child abuse daily, but unfortunately it is not significant news these days. Without a doubt, most animals have better instincts than many humans have rationality, especially when it comes to raising their own. It is no wonder some humans feel it is more difficult raising a child today, even with all the technology, science, and medicine we have available.
